some more information: after deinstalling the driver (using jockey) I again installed the driver (clicking the checkbox in jockey)
I got jockey-kde.install.1.log (see attachment) last 2 lines: Not loading nvidia_new module; not used in /etc/X11/xorg.conf WARNING: /sys/module/nvidia_new/drivers does not exist, cannot rebind nvidia_new driver Indeed /sys/module/nvidia_new/ does not exist. After modprobe nvidia_new I found a dir /sys/module/nvidia instead of /sys/module/nvidia_new ... hmmm I again deinstalled the drivers => /sys/module/nvidia EMPTY afterwards. ** Attachment added: "jockey-kde.install.1.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15244444/jockey-kde.install.1.log -- [hardy] system freeze when starting X (msi nx8800gt) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236412 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
