Richard: Whit Screen of Death What's happening is your graphics driver was not updated with -19 kernel. If you can try and go into graphics safe mode/recovery mode from the grub menu and see if you can enable your graphics card from there. Your going to want to go into the restricted drivers manager/hardware manager and enable it from there. I had to do this as well as I had not updated envy to envyng.
For all others: I could not get the orginal -19 kernel to work for suspend but the one in proposed updates fixed my system (don't really know why as I'm sure they're the same but it may be the other updates it offered) I suggest enabling proposed in the updates section of software sources and trying the update from there. If that doesn't work then post your out puts. Thanks again to to Tom and everyone for their fast and diligent work on this issue.
