Some more information:

I'm trying to see if this will happen after having turned off DMA on the
affected device at bootup by running "hdparm -d 0 /dev/hdc".  Note that
I didn't have these crashes in Breezy, and I was manually enabling DMA
for my CD-ROM there.  (In 2.6.12 DMA did not come up by default for CD-
ROMs on this controller.)

There seems to be no pattern to when it happens, nor is it induced by
any user input.  I have successfully read and burned DVDs with DMA on
without problems.
