I had this problem on a PowerPC Mac Powerbook G4 using a Logitech USB
mouse, but the addition of "CorePointer" to xorg.conf as described above
fixed it. Thank you!! It was driving me crazy. Not every single click
was interpreted as a double click, but nearly every one.

It was an upgrade some weeks ago on 8.04 that introduced the problem.
The graphics card on this machine refreshes fairly slowly, and I
wondered if this might have something to do with it - long periods with
interrupts disabled, for example.
