I encountered the same problem using an Intel D945GCLF Mini-ITX board. There I solved the problem by compiling my own kernel using a vanilla 2.6.25.5. Documentation on how to accomplish that are wide-spread on the net. I used the config from the 2.6.24 kernel and added the sound driver before compiling.
