I encountered the same problem using an Intel D945GCLF Mini-ITX board.
There I solved the problem by compiling my own kernel using a vanilla
2.6.25.5. Documentation on how to accomplish that are wide-spread on the
net. I used the config from the 2.6.24 kernel and added the sound driver
before compiling.

It's not the nicest way to get around this kernel related bug, but it
seemed to solve all my problems.
