I am seeing this as well after an upgrade to 8.04 in OpenOffice when select Open (a file):
$ openoffice $ GLib-GObject-ERROR **: g_type_plugin_*() invalidly modified type `GFileInfo' aborting... And now OpenOffice is just hung with the File menu open and had to be killed. Restarting soffice.bin under gdb and it runs fine. Restarting normally again and all works fine.
