The reason why alsa can't be set up to send all audio through pulseaudio
is because the configuration files that need to be changed in order to
do this are in libasound2, which is needed by all the Ubuntu flavours,
Ubuntu, Kubuntu, etc. Setting alsa to go through pulseaudio would only
break these desktops. Added to that, it would also break audio outside a
user's desktop session, for example the sound you hear when the login
screen appears.
