I have this issue as well with a Dell Inspiron 1525n (came with Gutsy installed, I upgraded to Hardy). It is truly a terrible noise!
The frustrating thing from a troubleshooting point of view is that it does NOT happen every single time that I resume from suspend, but I have been unable to determine the success/failure conditions. It does not happen when resuming from Hibernate. The following (pertinent?) info is in my /var/log/messages file Jun 2 19:27:16 navi kernel: [ 0.727405] CPU1: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz stepping 0d Jun 2 19:27:16 navi kernel: [ 0.727645] ACPI Error (psloop-0136): Found unknown opcode 2 at AML address f88547c9 offset 2, ignoring [20070126] Jun 2 19:27:16 navi kernel: [ 0.727650] ACPI Error (psloop-0136): Found unknown opcode FE at AML address f88547ca offset 3, ignoring [20070126] Jun 2 19:27:16 navi kernel: [ 0.727657] ACPI Error (psargs-0355): [N\Uffffffff\Uffffffff\Uffffffff Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND Jun 2 19:27:16 navi kernel: [ 0.727661] ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_PR_.CPU1._PCT] (Node f7c503d8), AE_NOT_FOUND Jun 2 19:27:16 navi kernel: [ 0.727696] ACPI Exception (processor_perflib-0170): AE_NOT_FOUND, Evaluating _PCT [20070126] Jun 2 19:27:16 navi kernel: [ 0.727701] CPU1 is up I have attached the entire file so you can peruse the sequence of events (there are a few messages in there about failing to suspend, but the above is the only error message with details). Following through the sequence of events it looks like there are multiple attempts at suspend/resume when I try to resume - but I don't know anything about ACPI so I don't know if that is normal behavior or not. ** Attachment added: "messages" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14933448/messages -- Terrible loud noise when resuming from suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222390 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
