Public bug reported: I've just upgraded one of my machines by installing a new 64bit motherboard, CPU & RAM. I therefore took the opportunity to install the 64bit version of Hardy. The motherboard in question is an Asrock AliveDual-eSATA2 which features a Realtek RTL8111B/RTL8111C on board LAN controller.
However I am simply unable to get even basic networking going under Hardy. This is with an installed 64 bit version, a 64 bit live CD or a 32 bit Live CD. Additionally I have just spent 5 hours systematically working through all the network troubleshooters I can find but sadly nothing I do seems to work - even manually setting a static IP address, netmask & gateway etc. doesn't help. However if I boot from either a Feisty CD, a Gutsy CD or a Knoppix 5.1 CD everything works fine. Following this I also reinstalled Gutsy 32bit and this worked fine so I know my hardware is working. After this I used update manager to upgrade Gutsy to Hardy (kernel 2-6-24-17) after which networking is once again broken. Logic dictates that the problem is therefore with either Hardy or kernel 2-6-24-17. Please advise as to any diagnostic reports I can produce which would be of help in diagnosing the problem. Cheers. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Kernel 2-6-24-17 doesn't work with Realtek RTL8111 LAN https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/236287 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
