Hi, thanks for your efford, but I don't think this problem should be solved on packaging level (the suggests seems right to me), but rather inside the application (e.g. to show a hint which package to installed for the grayed out box to work).
Oh, and though I'm not 100% sure, I firmly believe that you cannot call apt-get install from a postinst (if you'd apt-get install tsclient, apt- get would be called recursively, which imho is bound to fail). Another note: tsclient is in main nowadays, so you might want to subscribe ubuntu-main-sponsors.
