Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04

rhythmbox:
  Installed: 0.11.5-0ubuntu6
  Candidate: 0.11.5-0ubuntu6
  Version table:
 *** 0.11.5-0ubuntu6 0
        500 http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu hardy/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Ever since upgrading to Hardy Heron (8.04), some Rhythmbox (which I also used
in Gutsy 7.10) downloaded podcast media files wouldn't transfer to gtkpod. I
noticed that instead of ending in .mp3, they now ended in something like
.mp3?nvb=20080529153807&nva=20080530153807&t=05dbec74736273c29b971

The addition of the question mark and other tags at the end appears to
cause problems with some multimedia applications. I have to manually
search every downloaded podcast folder for files with "broken"
extensions and rename them before they will transfer correctly, using
gtkpod, to my ipod.

This doesn't consistently happen to ALL of my podcast feeds and I have
looked at the feeds that do exhibit this behavior and the enclosures
don't list this extra information at the end the the podcast mp3 or ogg
file.

Some podcast feeds that exhibit this behavior include. This is not an
exhaustive list as I deleted a few that exhibited this behavior that I no
longer follow anyway:
* Pauldotcom Security Weekly, http://pauldotcom.com/podcast/psw.xml, it appears
that they host their media files on libsyn.com

* Redmonk Radio, http://feeds.feedburner.com/RedmonkRadio, it appears
that they host their media files on libsyn.com

* Software Engineering Radio, http://se-radio.net/rss (this actually
redirects to a feedburner feed), it appears that they host their media
files on libsyn.com

* The Java Posse, http://feeds.feedburner.com/javaposse, it appears that
they also host their media files on libsyn.com

Of the current feeds that had new episodes to download, it looks like
all of the ones that are having this problem host their media files on
libsyn.com. I don't know if that makes any difference, but I found it
odd that it seemed to be a common factor.

I thought that the issue might a feedburner.com feed issue (and it still
might be), but the Pauldotcom Security podcast doesn't appear (as far as
I could tell) to use a feedburner feed and yet still has the problem
with the extra garbage at the end of its media file extensions.

Some rhythmbox podcast downloads have added garbage in the filename after the
mp3/ogg extension making it difficult to transfer to gtkpod until they are
renamed manually
