I'm not sure it is related to the nvidia drivers... I've been trying to track down what exactly makes it happen but I cannot say yet.
I found, however, a way to "solve" it once it has happened. I use a KasBar (for all apps I use while my taskbar has only the ones in the present desktop). When I press in the KasBar for any window and I go back to the gvim desktop, everything works again.
