Had the same problems with other packages as well (ia32-libs and stuff). Some 
investigation showed that this really is due to the nvidia-driver-crap. 
The following solution fixed all my Problems:

mkdir -p /usr/lib/nvidia
mkdir -p /usr/lib32/nvidia

I can only guess that the nvidia-packages by ubuntu use sligthly
different folders than the nvidia-binaries.
