I believe the GUI not on top is related to this (the bug generally
places video output over everything else).

The problem:
1. Use Gnome
2. Disable desktop effects
3. Start xine
4. Right Click the video window -> Settings -> Setup...
5. Configuration level: Advanced -> Apply
6. Windows stacking -> layer above (check it) -> Apply
7. Windows stacking (more) -> always layer above (check it) -> Ok
8. Press G to get the GUI in the front.
---- and now the actual problem -----
9. Bug: The GUI does not stay on top and can be covered with the Video output
window. (It is brought to the top when clicking the video output window but the
video output window still covers it)

The problem did not exist in 7.04.
It exists in both 7.10 and 8.04 under Gnome if desktop effects are disabled on
both 32 and 64 bit.

The problem does not exist in Xubuntu 7.10 and 8.04.

Searching on Google suggests a problem likewise with metacity back in
2003.

My version:
Ubuntu 8.04 (with xubuntu-desktop)
$ xine -v
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.6cvs.
(c) 2000-2007 The xine Team.
$ uname -a
Linux poul2006 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

Suggested workaround: Use Xubuntu
