Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mpd

I am using Ubuntu 8.04 (upgraded from dapper) and mpd-version
0.13.1-3ubuntu1.

When I restart mpd (/etc/init.d/mpd restart), all works fine, but when I reboot
the machine, mpd failes to start. For a test, I startet mpd by hand: "sudo mpd
--stdout", which gave me the following output:
----
No "audio_output" defined in config file
Attempt to detect audio output device
Attempting to detect a alsa audio device
Successfully detected a alsa audio device
error parsing state file "/var/lib/mpd/state"
----

The file /var/lib/mpd/state lookes like this:
---
audio_device_state:1:default detected output
state: play
current: 2901
time: 213
random: 1
repeat: 0
crossfade: 3
playlist_begin
---

if I add a line "playlist_end" at the end of the file, mpd starts.

It is a little bit confusing, because the boot process should only
execute the mpd init script. I checked my init.d directory, if there is
another script left (from original dapper installation), which
interferes with /etc/init.d/mpd, but i found none.

Regards,
Ralf
