For the Ubuntu Studio Gutsy -> Hardy upgrade failure, I just had to do: apt-get remove audacious-plugins-extras And then retry the upgrade through the DVD. Worked flawlessly after removing the package. For the 'can't load human theme' problem, I solved it by choosing the login screen via gdmsetup: sudo gdmsetup This will bring up the GDM Setup screen, where you can choose the Ubuntu Studio Login. Look at the post by Yuki at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=473971&highlight=human.xml. Though it is for Fiesty, the basic reason behind the issue and the fix for it is the same.
