I'm currently installing Windoze Dead Messenger (MS' official client) in my VirtualBox XP install, and if that can log into fine, then it should be pretty much the case that the authentication method has changed, I'll post results here very soon. Otherwise, they may just be having server problems (unsurprising, considering who they are).
