I am having the same problem with the Courier New font in Google docs not showing up as a fixed width / monospace font in my firefox 2.x browser in Ubuntu.
I downloaded the fonts.config file provided above, but I do not have root access on the machine and therefore cannot install the file as /etc/fonts/local.conf -- is there a place in my home directory I can place the file and then have firefox look for it there instead of /etc/local? Thanks. Hopefully resurrecting this old thread is ok :).
