I suffered the "numeric keypads only controls mouse cursor" bug after upgrading from Gutsy to Hardy yesterday (using the update manager). The solution proposed above of unchecking the option in the Mouse Keys tab of Keyboard Prefs worked.
However, this bug is still present.
