i have access to four machines running Hardy: 32-bit Kubuntu, 32-bit Ubuntu and two 64-bit Ubuntu machines. all use the restricted Nvidia driver.
the only one which doesn't exhibit this shutting down problem is the 32-bit Ubuntu machine. the other three stop when shutting down or restarting if the desktop manager's shut down/reboot command was used. all reboot or shutdown just fine with poweroff or reboot. i didn't try the grub options tweak. when stopped during shutdown, i usually only see the pointer (which can be moved) and the wallpaper. i've had a program stay open and usable before, though. nothing appears in ~/.xsession-errors, /var/log/messages or /var/log/syslog. the only thing in common i can find with the three affected machines is that they are all running keytouch. the fourth machine has it installed but it isn't actively being used. it may not be configured -- i'd have to ask my housemate. when everything stops during shutdown i can control-alt f1. if i then run htop the top process is (on the gnome machines -- i'm not willing to test the KDE one right now because it's my main machine) /bin/bash /usr/bin/keytouchd-launch /usr/bin/gnome-session killing this causes the shutdown/reboot to continue normally. i just tried uninstalling keytouch on one of the 64-bit Ubuntu machines. rebooted with sudo reboot and then shut down with the gnome button. it shut down without a problem. reinstalled it, rebooted, shut down with the gnome button. freeze. have we the problem? are any of you others with shutdown problems running keytouch? -- Hardy Heron won't shut down or restart https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217079 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
