I managed to restart the machine but it did not help. Than I purged all the gnumeric packages including their dependencies. Installed only gnumeric (and its dependencies, nothing extra) and it worked! I could see the chart selection. Than I added the doc and plugin packages and the problem returned. I repeated the described procedure but this time with no luck. Regardless of what I do, there is no way to display the chart selection again.
