Same problem here on an HP NX6310 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection (rev 02)
I installed the linux-backports-modules. Wireless networks don't show up in network manager until about 10-20 minutes after a reboot. Sometimes wireless networks don't show up at all.
