I have the same problem, and I can add movies if I right click on the
left side of the workspace (white area where video's are supposed to
come). Without giving me any options, it allows me to add videos and
everything works.

The second problem is that the background image is converted to 1 second
long video, which of course doesn't match the duration of the audio
file, and I have to click on the properties for the background picture
and change the "geometry"!?

In the end, I run into a third problem: even though I have prepared the
audio file for the main menu in mp2 format (the same way I used to do in
Ubuntu 7.10), QDVDauthor insists on converting it to DVD acceptable
format, basically doing the same conversion I already did.

After all this, the DVD seems to work.
