I haven't tried on hardy yet (I'll give it a go in the folllowing days). The ifb interface is not very well documented but it was supposed to be a replacement for IMQ. In fact, I mearly use it to do ingress filtering. It basically consists in a virtual network interface to which you can redirect the incoming traffic.
