I have a solution (which has been given to me by the user choubi57 on http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=213631 ): Go to any .dvi file, click the right button of the mouse, pick "Properties" in the opening menu, choose "Open with" tab of the "Properties" window (until now, just standard steps) and then click on the button "Add" and don't pick any application from the list but click on "use a custom command" and type
kdvi in the line command. Then click "Add" and be shure that in the "Open with" menu a new line called "kdvi" has been added, and select it. Then save and go out from the "Properties" menu. That's all. OK, I agree, it's silly, but at least it works.
