the facts should be confirmed by somebody who worked on those but from what I read it seemed that the custom option was just a way to say that none of the stock choices was used but those settings were not stored so switching to normal was overwritting the settings and switching then to custom was not setting anything else than the normal settings, the command named used change in hardy but not other code so it would be surprising if hardy was working differently
