This is due to enabled backports updates (unsupported !!!) in the package management system. See bug #228067 in qt4-x11 (Ubuntu) for the solution that helped me.
Lyx now works again reverting to libqt4-* packages version 3.4.x. This was really a shock because I was in the middle of a 150 pages project ;( Unfortunately I am out of house for the next days, so good luck an look into my post of the above bug description.
