I applied all of the Hardy updates 05/06/08 and the Network Manager errors are gone and the Usplash is working on shutdown and re-start! I have re-booted the pc several times with no problems.
I do not know the specific package that fixed this, but it is nice to see things are looking good! Hopefully the problem will not return. Can anyone else confirm this?
