Well, well...

A little bit more on this: The error seems to be solved just removing a
(legacy?) file called:

~/.xinput.d/es_ES

(that's my locale) that was causing scim to be loaded always, and to be
used as the default XIM (X Input Method). It seems that the script was
old enough to cause the system to screw up all the special accented
symbols and dead keys.

Happy this solved out nicely.
