This bug was already filed under Evolution, I didn't put it here. You are right that it is not an Evolution bug, but I didn't know where to move it. What do Evolution, Thunderbird and Claws have in common? Perhaps some kind of generic networking package?
It might be a Gmail issue, but it is also an Ubuntu issue, as the problem wasn't there in Gutsy.
