Thanks for your bug report. Actually, Brother packages does not install
very well, the workaround you needed to use only apply to the official
Brother printer drivers from their website, you should not need to
create that folder if you use the brother packages available in ubuntu
repositories. According to your printer name and this wiki
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BrotherDriverPackaging, you should install
brother-cups-wrapper-extra and brother-lpr-drivers-extra from synaptic
and you will have necessary printer drivers in cupsys for your printer.
Can you try this?
