Public bug reported:

See also bug#172563.

Boot after power-on and some soft reboots (from Linux) cause the system
to hang in "waiting for root file system". Eventually (several minutes later),
the system drops into initramfs, with this message:

ATA_ID[4112] main: HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed for /dev/.tmp-8-16

This system is an ASUS A8MVM-CSM, with NVIDIA SATA controller,
and two-core AMD Opteron.

uname -a:
Linux rattler 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linuxi

I'll attach syslog.0 and dmesg, lspci.

 cat /proc/version_signature
Ubuntu 2.6.24-16.30-generic
