Public bug reported:

I am assuming something is broken in gshutdown although it could be
something else. I just recently upgraded to the final version of Hardy
Heron and I cannot reboot, logoff or shutdown. it quits the session but
just sits at the desktop wallpaper until I use the ctrl+alt+backspace
command and then it reboots, shutsdown or logs off. I can also use "sudo
shutdown -r now" from a terminal window as well just not with the
shutdown gui.

** Affects: gshutdown (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
