The problem was caused by applying a patch to the ubuntu version of the 2.4 release that was intended for the 3.0 release and has since been reverted. As such the new broken behaviour will never occur in an official open office release - a much cleverer system is being implemented instead. It will only occur in hardy and some of other distro versions. Are we stuck with this behaviour for the LTS? It being post release now?
