I had exactly the same problem as Gene Mosher, in that I wanted to revert to FF2 to continue using various extensions that are not yet compatible with FF3.
This was on a box-fresh install of Ubuntu Hardy. I had no extensions.rdf to delete I tried the patch, but that just moved the problem further down to line 7647.
