I *think* rkward will not start at all unless it is rebuilt (see bug #221399; libRblas.so is no longer included in r-base-core 2.6.2), so this should be a different issue. On the other hand, I can't rule out the possibility that this is another symptom of the same underlying issue. Well, it's all just speculation without knowing the exact installed versions, and more so, since I don't have a ubuntu system to test with.
