I commented above that I get no sound with Kubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 from my Asus P5E-VM Do motherboard (ALC883 sound chip, HDA driver). I can provide some more information about the bug now. I have found that if I move the jack plug for my speakers (I use only two speakers) from the green socket to the black socket on the back of the PC and turn all of the volumes in kmix (including microphone and microphone boost) to maximum I do get sound, although not of good quality. In theory the green socket should be the correct one for a stereo system - the black is for surround sound.
I have also added options snd-hda-intel model=6stack-dig to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base although I'm not sure if this is essential. Six colour-coded sockets are provided and there is provision for an SPDIF connection (although I do not use it). Hence I chose model=6stack- dig. -- [hardy] Sound card hda Intel doesn't work with kernel 2.6.24 series https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211644 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
