The problem just happened and this time I wasn't running compiz. So my gut feeling was wrong and this seems completely kernel related.
What's the next step ? Should I try to enable i8042.debug ? Is there an Ubuntu kernel available with kgdb ? (maybe a patched 2.6.25 from universe ?)
