I have the same problem with a Compaq Deskpro using an ATI 3D Rage card when doing dual install w. WindowsXP. Maximum resolution w. no tinkering in xorg.conf gives a maximum resolution of 800*600. Monitor is a Packard Bell A927 - It should be detected correctly or ?? The monitor section of xorg.conf looks like: Section "Monitor" Identifier "Configured Monitor" EndSection The monitor is using horisontal and vertical scanning frequencies of 30-95 kHz /50-102 Hz. Adding this information by hand makes the monitor behave as expected. As I'm - on a small scale - promoting Ubuntu as a replacement for older versions of MS Windows on older hardware As Jo and Johan User can't be expected to tinker w. xorg.conf this undetection of older hardware worries me.
Running a live CD of 8.04 on a newer machine using a Samtron 94 monitor gives exactly the same problem - the screen is not correctly detected. -- Screen Resolution change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/220491 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
