Thanks for the reply mike, I upgraded after getting rid of nvidia-glx- new so I never used update-manager -d. Instead, I ran
sudo mv /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2.old sudo envy --uninstall-all And then I did do-release-upgrade and it worked.
