Just installed Hardy Heron (8.04, non-beta) and this issue seems to be fixed - rtl8180 with ndiswrapper now works using the graphical ndiswrapper manager. At last! :-) I can also say that hibernate and suspend don't work (for me at least) - this may or may not be related to using ndiswrapper (I'll have to investigate...).
