Public bug reported:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:    Ubuntu 8.04
Release:        8.04

I upgrade ubuntu from 7.10 to 8.04.
After the upgrading is finished and the system is rebooted, the following
error message is displayed.

---
Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
10400090

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
---

After this, I find the keymap has been changed, that is, both "underbar" key
and
swapping ctrl and caps lock won't work.
I try to configure keyboard going system -> settings -> keyboard -> layout ->
layout options
to change capslock to ctrl, but it also won't work.

I attach the output of the above commands as follows.

---
$ xprop -root | grep XKB
_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "xorg", "jp106", "jp,jp", "latin,",
"grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "xorg", "jp106", "jp,jp", "latin,",
"grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"

$ gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
 layouts = [jp  latin,jp        ,us]
 model =
 options = [grp grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led    grp_led:scroll,ctrl
ctrl:nocaps]
 overrideSettings = true
