A method to disable pata_via (or pata_amd) and re-enable via82cxxx (or amd74xx) is given in comment of ubuntu bug #213639 by Leszek with a zip file containaing the via82cxxx.ko and amd74xx.ko (from 2.6.24-12-generic kernel)
