If I were a new user, just trying out Ubuntu as an alternative to Windows, an annoying bug like this would keep me from wanting to learn much about Linux. The conclusion might be "If they can't even make the machine turn off when it should, then this must be a pretty poor OS." Of course, we know that is not true, but try telling that to a newbie.
