The b43-fwcutter package in Ubuntu does not actually contain the driver/firmware for the wireless card, because Broadcom will not allow Ubuntu to do so. Instead, the package is a simple script that tries to download the firmware from the Internet. It's a catch-22, obviously but there's little to be done about it until Broadcom opens up their driver.
Can you try plugging your laptop into a wired connection to download it? If not, try doing it manually. Download "http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o" and copy it to your home directory. Then try this command "b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o" to extract the firmware. If everything worked right, it should now appear in the Restricted Devices Manager. ** Changed in: b43-fwcutter (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None => b43-fwcutter -- BETA 8.04 fail to install broadcom driver (fwcutter) from synaptic pack manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/219955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
