Thanks Bryce,

I just added a comment to the bug page. It would seem that the problem is fixed.
Yesterday I did a 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg' and now the intel
driver loads:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ fgrep drivers/ /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_drv.so

It might be related: I checked using 'Adept' to see which 'intel' packages were
installed
and I had two:
xserver-xorg-video-i810
and
xserver-xorg-video-intel

I removed the xserver-xorg-video-i810 and then did the 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure
-phigh
xserver-xorg'.

Blessings,

Nigel
