Apologies for the lack of response. After filing the bug, I disabled the random selection of screen savers and have select just one light weight screen saver. This has addressed the problem and I now have a stable server for my home VMWare needs.
Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to try the dev version you mentioned. Thanks for the follow up! Matt.
