Getting webcams to work in Ubuntu can be very difficult.
When you plugin one, nothing happens, no indication whatever.
To get it to work, you might need to do a series of complex steps involving;
* load kernel modules
* edit configuration files
* add yourself to the 'video' group
* fetching source packages from some website
* compiling from source
* installing it
* edit settings for gstreamer, etc.
It is just way too complicated.
