I have the same problem, I just updated yesterday to Linux-2.6.24-16 and it hangs on boot, but in my case the last line on the screen was about loading external modules. I tried restarting with the 2.6.24-15 kernel, and it didn't work; as I have still installed the 2.6.24-14, I tried booting, and ok, then I rebooted again with 2.6.24-16 and it worked WITHOUT loading my atheros support and hal modules, marking it as "not used". I have it now enabled but my computer only works with the kernel 2.6.24-14. The strange thing is that on synaptics, the update history does not have an entry of the update, say more or less 00:30 am on sunday 13 th, So I dont remember exactly which packages have changed. I remember they were installed as a "partial upgrade". What should I check/do/help ? I have installed hardy and updated packages everytime requested from the alfa version.
