Indeed, my time zone wasn't set. and this seems to have fixed it, thanks Timo! I haven't rebooted as yet, so I don't now if the fix will stay. I'll report it if I observe further problems. By the way, the resetting of the time zone that Timo reports may be related to bug #210561.
